We sat down to chat with the new president of Conscious Capitalism of Central Maryland, Eboni Adams Monk to find out a little bit more about her, and her vision for the upcoming year, and her goals for serving the organization.
Eboni Adams Monk is the new president of C3MD, taking over for Wendy Moomaw who led the organization for the last four years (thank you, Wendy!). Eboni is the Marketing Director for Advanced Refining Technologies (ART), a joint venture between Chevron and W.R. Grace. In her role, she leads global marketing activities for ART, a leading supplier of hydroprocessing catalysts that produce cleaner fuels and trusted advisor to the world’s refiners. Eboni has trained leaders in Six Sigma and Facilitative Leadership principles and has received numerous leadership and teamwork awards. She is also a mother, mentor, author and wisdom-keeper – her passion for transformational leadership is demonstrated in her success with leading high-achieving, global, cross-functional teams for over 20 years.
For the community
Eboni wants to “Continue to educate ourselves as well as our community about the Conscious Capitalism four tenets [stakeholder orientation, conscious culture, conscious leadership, and higher purpose] and the relationship between those principles and how they influence being a conscious business.”
For the board
She has observed some of the areas where the C3MD board could grow. Consistent meetings among the board and leadership team will help the organization to thrive and grow. She is looking forward to filling some of the committee chair slots so that C3MD is operating at full force.
For social media
Eboni shared some ideas for different ways to increase engagement on social media. Using video, Facebook Live, and other live stream opportunities is something she’d like to explore. She’d love to see more people engaged with Ignite Howard County, so we’ll keep sharing past videos to hopefully spark interest in next year’s event. She’d also love to survey current members and participants to see how we could improve and increase membership. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter!
For membership
As always, “increasing membership and making people more aware of what we do” will not only help to grow the organization, but will also help businesses and leaders to become more conscious.
For humanity
C3MD is aware of the challenges communities and businesses face. Eboni shared “When there is chaos there is light that is seeking to be seen. It is our responsibility to find that light, find out what it’s there to teach us, and then make the commitment to transform and commit to become something different than we were before. And that is the challenge for all of us right now.” Being aware of these issues is the first step to becoming stronger and that is what we hope C3MD will continue to do for its members.
For businesses
Monk discussed the two pandemics, COVID-19 and racism. “Interest is high about how we can act from a more evolved perspective and that is what Conscious Capitalism is really about, she continued. “How can I work and feel good about what I’m doing? How can I connect to the community that I’m doing the work for? How can I serve the employees that I lead? And is this company truly aligned with my mission and values? Those are real questions that all leaders and companies are grappling with because COVID and the racial tensions, unrest, and inequity have brought the issues to light. She will push C3MD and its members to be aware and to take action when necessary. (Read our Leaning into Racial Equity blog).
