WIth the election finally behind us, we’ve been thinking about leadership, especially conscious leadership! What is it? What should it look like, and how can we practice it in the workplace?
C3MD President Camille Mazelev of Maze Consulting LLC led the conversation with panelists Leadership Howard County‘s Tim Payne. Culture Principles‘ Danielle Marshall, and Leadership Psychologist Coach and Author Dr. Sheela Reddy. We had great attendance and discussion!
Sheela kicked us off with one idea of leadership referring to power and control. “The leader has to take an audit of how people are feeling,” she said. “…And we all deserve dignity and respect.”
The panel and attendees offered definitions of leadership and highlighted some key factors in leading today. Tim’s advice for new leaders today is to line up mentors and get coaching. “Sometimes new leaders come from being great doers – they need help, like from mentors for learning and understanding,” he said.
“Leaders need to be flexible and be prepared to pivot quickly. They need to bring intentionality to everything they do and know their WHY,” offered Danielle Marshall. She continued, “As leaders of organizations, we know that the people we work with have different perspectives on the world, on politics, on everything. We are very divided as a nation right now, so I think the reality is there are going to be a lot of people, regardless of what side they are on, who are struggling with psychological safety. As leaders we need to provide that.”
