“Everything I understand about conscious capitalism… requires conscious leadership and the two have to go hand in hand. I can’t do one without the other and vice-versa. I believe Conscious Capitalism is an imperative.” – Bill Adams
“Leadership transformation precedes the organizational transformation.” – Bob Anderson
On February 27, 2019, Conscious Capitalism Central Maryland Chapter connected with other Conscious Capitalism Chapters from D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston and Rochester as well as other curious business owners and learners to engage in a thoughtful discussion about leadership and growth. Led by the authors of Scaling Leadership – Building Organizational Capability and Capacity to Create Outcomes that Matter Most, Bob Anderson and Bill Adams, the webinar focused on the intersection of conscious capitalism, conscious leadership and scaling leadership within organizations.
Throughout the discussion and based on their data, Bob and Bill revealed that leaders cannot consciously build and grow until they themselves accept self-reflection and personal change.
“Conscious leaders understand what it is to be in relationship with self and they use self as an instrument.” – Bill Adams
Bob and Bill shared many stories of themselves working together at The Leadership Circle, a leadership assessment company that provides a practical pathway to effective, evolved leadership to drive sustainable outcomes. Their candidness was refreshing as they shared moments of frustration in their own personal growth and their partnership, as well as their successes.
In reviewing the data from over 160,000 leaders and over 1.3-1.4 million raters, about 38% of the leaders evaluated are women. An interesting revelation in the data was that 52% of the upper quartile of most effective leaders were women. The data shows they are more effective in leadership than men by 15-20%.
“I want to quit not taking advantage of the fact that there is an entire gender base that can help us get more effective and actually get conscious about what needs to happen to this planet before we destroy it. Men – we need to get out of the way and give women their jobs.” – Bill Adams
At their core, businesses can only perform at a consciousness level of its leadership. How adaptive can a business be? How innovative, agile and engaged? How do employees and stakeholders react? Watch and listen to the webinar and follow along with the slides to learn more about Scaling Leadership and becoming a conscious leader. Conscious Capitalism Central Maryland Chapter also invites you to join us at our Conscious Coffee “Book Club” review on April 10 at the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship to discuss Scaling Leadership in more depth.
